| If
you enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of Amish Acres, you'll love
Holmes County, Ohio located just south of Canton.
It has become one of our favorite places to go. There are many
little towns in Holmes County, all with unique places to shop,
most of which are hand-crafted by the Amish or Mennonites. It
is a longer drive (approx. 4 hours from Warren), but it is definitely
worth it!
It
is far less commercialized than Shipshewanna. Everywhere you
look there are rolling hills, beautiful farms, and lots of
Amish buggies. Finding a grocery store or Target is much more
challenging here!
There
are more places to shop, especially if you are interested
in furniture. We enjoy seeking out the Amish farmers
who have furniture on display in their barns. Now that's handcrafted!
And
of course, the food is great! There a "Der Dutchman"
Restaurant in Walnut Creek (same as "Essenhaus"
in Shipshewanna).
Donna's
Premier lodging is a beautiful place to stay if you're
looking for solitude and luxury! In April we stayed in one
of the Villas located right in the town of Berlin. It was
a beautiful "cabin" with 2 floors. Downstairs
was the kitchen, living room with fireplace, and bathroom.
Upstairs was a beautiful bedroom with jacuzzi. There's even
a barbeque grill on the deck! (Not that I cooked anything!)
They also have several brand new Cedar Log Cabins located
in the woods outside of town. MENTION
MARRIAGE BOOST when you make your reservation and receive
special pricing for stays Monday thru Thursday.
If
you're looking for a less expensive place to stay, the
Carlisle Village Inn in Walnut Creek is very nice as well.
We prefer the executive suite which is very roomy and includes
a microwave and refrigerator.
